Red Hulk (also known as Red or Rulk) is the alter-ego of General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross and was created when Ross was injected with a modified sample of the original Hulk's blood.
History
Biography
After Skaar arrived on Earth, Red Hulk took him down with a rocket and imprisoned him in an anti-gravity holding chamber. Skaar managed to escape, and Red Hulk took on Annihilus' bugs before being captured and sent to the Negative Zone.[1]
Personality
Originally, as General Thunderbolt Ross, he was obsessed with capturing the wild and uncontrollable Hulk and harnessing his immense powers. However, upon his transformation into the Red Hulk and Hulk's recently risen intelligence, he has had a change of heart and taken it upon himself to look out for him.
Red Hulk believes he is the best of the Hulks and his military history has often boosted his ego to unbearable levels. He thinks of himself as a leader, despite the fact, his arrogant nature makes him unlikable amongst the team. However, he can back up his boasting to a certain extent.
Powers and Abilities
Red Hulk's body temperature rises with his anger, and he is capable of emitting heat waves at will from his body. While not as physically strong as the Hulk, Red Hulk has impressive gamma-powered superhuman strength, endurance, reflexes, and stamina as well as a highly efficient metabolism, instantaneous cellular regeneration (which also de-aged him & made him immortal) & nigh-invulnerability. He also has highly advanced military & espionage training, thereby making him quite formidable in his own right. Also, he has a unique ability to absorb and drain gamma energy which was showcased during his battle against Doctor Doom. Notably, he used this ability to drain Green Skull and Hydra Leader's superweapon of gamma, which not only disabled the weapon but transformed Green Skull back into Red Skull.
Equipment
Red Hulk has a wide arsenal of advanced energy weapons which he shares with the other members of S.M.A.S.H which include a hand-held minigun and his Gatling Laser Cannon. He also acquires missile launchers from the Red Hulk-Buster. In later episodes, he was sporting a powerful rapid-fire gamma cannon. He also has Gamma grenades which can unleash a gamma explosion. His primary weapons are his dual hand cannons, which are similar to pistol/shotgun-like weapons.
Trivia
- He is technically the oldest of the Hulks despite looking and sounding young.
- As the Red Hulk, he noticeably does not have a mustache or white hair like his former, aged human self, along with his hair becoming black and his appearance being younger.
- Despite being the oldest of the Hulks, he is cocky and hotheaded while the Hulk is both younger and wiser than him.
- In the comics, he constantly emits gamma radiation and the emission rate increases with his rage.
